Bad Table Manners.
Woke up in Hong Kong....at 3 AM. Oh our old friend jet lag. Apparently someone had spotted McDonalds the night before in the terminal so without much pushback form me we set out in the wee hours of the morning to get food. It was good, ironically the suggestion came from Austin who in the states hates McDonalds, I believe he saw the documentary “Supersize Me” and never wanted it again. We watched them actually make pancakes and crack eggs and it was honestly not a bad breakfast.
We made it back to go to the pool when it opened(at 7am) and it looked so nice Todd and I even got in. We wondered around worked on real life emails and stuff and then got hungry around lunch time. So in an effort not to be total lazy tourists we went to an authentic noodle restaurant, forthwith known as the “Soup that melted my mouth restaurant”. We likely should have known(being we were relying heavily on pictures to order) that the ruby jewel like color of the broth should have been an indication of the hotness of the soup. But after a couple benign courses of noodles, rice, and dumplings, out it came in all it’s gem like glory; steaming bowl of noodles that disappeared into the abbess of cardinal red broth that looked like even if you looked at it too long it would stain your eyes red. But dish it up we did. I should pause to mention we are horrible at Chinese utensils. First we don’t have the faintest idea how to get noodles and broth out of one bowl into another (using only chopsticks and a small spoon)without a horrendous mess and second the temptation to use them as drum sticks or eye glasses was too great.
So back to dishing up the soup. Todd was the first to go. Todd eats everything hot. Todd has eaten the hottest pepper they had at the Tai market in Bangkok, Todd tried the horrendous hot sauce in New Orleans, Todd took one bite of this and inhaled making a sound that was only recognizable as someone adjusting to a surprise. Soup was hot. I, already staring down a bowl in front of me decided to be cautious and only take a small amount of noodles, it was enough. I instantly knew I’d made a mistake. We’d not ordered enough water(not that it would have mattered.) My next bet was a napkin, nope only had a couple already crinkled ones that are basically what they give you when you get a small ice cream cone. “Rice” I pull what’s left of the picked through fried rice and pray like when it’s used to save a wet iPhone it will likewise absorb the fire in my mouth. It doesn’t really help but the fire subsided to what we all decided(ok Todd and I as kids didn’t know what we were talking about) it was like licking 10 9v batteries.
We slowly regain sensation on our mouths-Hannah bring the only taker on Todd’s offer of $10 to eat it, he later joked he’d meant Hong Kong Dollars(would have been about $1.50) also survived.
We went back to the rooms. Todd had plans to go for a run I had plans to go to the gym we both laid down and passed out until it was time to go to the gate for our flight. It worked out fine. Flight here was great we all slept basically the whole way.
After a long exit from the Indian airport we were met by a driver who took us though our first sights of Deli in the dark. We are staying in a 4 room B&B and the sleepy owners helped us to our rooms before saying goodnight. The suns still not up but the neighborhood dogs have been barking and howling like something out of a zombie apocalypse movie all night long...can’t wait to see what the sunrise will bring us.

Keep it going , nice job Sarah;!
