The one thing about Paris that is a little bit hard to get used to is the food shopping. I know eye roll. But for someone used to going to Target where you can grab everything this notion of a butcher a baker and a candlestick maker will take some getting used to. And some exploring. Thus far we've found the baker. Todd claims the butcher is up the street but I have not seen it and I missed another farmers market today by an hour(it's not helping we are staying up until 2am and getting up at 11.) But I have it on good advise that there is another one tomorrow and I am pretty sure I know where.
Todd worked today at some world famous hand surgery place, he said it was cool but it took up his whole day. So the kids and I went to the Bon Marche. Which is the super fancy french mall basically. Ironically Bon Marche translates into "good deal" Haha. It's about 1.5km from our place so we loaded up the stroller and went out. We passed les Invilides and the Ecole de Militere(military school.) The Bon Marche is intimidating, think Stanford mall on crack. So we went into the food store they have there which was just as intimidating but in front was a case of Macaroons. As I had never had them before and the kids were fascinated by the colors so we got a box of them. They are AMAZING. Seriously I can't wait to try more. We walked to a little park and ate them. I then got the "I have to Pee" alarm, this will prove to be the issue of the trip. We went into a little cafe and asked for the bathroom, got some drinks and ventured home. Traffic here is crazy, they drive so fast and the rule is basically when a pedestrian is crossing the street you just have to miss them. So crossing is a bit hairy. But all in all the kids are great, the stroller is proving to be essential for walking and the boys are pro's at sticking together. The highlight of the day may have been finding a tunnel like driveway with a great echo where the kids made themselves laugh for about 10 minutes. I made the kids some pasta but I am pretty much "carbed" out. I feel like in the city of the best food maybe in the world we may starve. It may be the one downer of the trip, to be surrounded by all this great food but have it be unreachable as I am pretty sure no matter how much we tried our kids won't "dine." And as Todd put it tonight when I sent him out to get me something other than bread "it's not like they have takeout here." So I am not determined to find a Chicken and some good veggies tomorrow for dinner. Todds got the next 5 days off so we will start to explore with a little more zest tomorrow.
As a funny side note I just spell checked this but as we are in french the whole page lit up yellow so pardon all my misspellings.
I love Macaroons! I've had some from this place in San Francisco Hayes Valley. Funny story..."The Bon Marche" was the name of the Macy's chain of department stores in the northwest, until the early 2000s or something. We'd often say "let's go to the Bon"...although we pronounced more like "the bawn".

What's wrong with living off macaroons and baguettes? Sounds good to me...
